Men’s overnight backpacking in the Sipsey Wilderness
Friday, Nov. 10
This is a two-day, one-night adventure to the scenic Sipsey Wilderness in Bankhead National Forest in northwest Alabama that combines hiking and camping along the trail with Bible study. We’ll unplug from technology, seek some adventure, hang out by the campfire and spend some time with God in His wilderness. No previous backpacking experience is required.
We’ll start at the Thompson Trailhead and hike about 3 miles down Trail 206 until it meets Trail 209 and the Sipsey Fork of the Black Warrior River. We will continue on to Bee Branch Canyon and take the side trail up to the Big Tree and Bee Branch Falls, camping somewhere along trail 209 and returning back to the trailhead on Saturday. This is a good trip for beginners because there are minimal elevation gains and wide, easy trails in the Sipsey. Anyone in halfway decent shape should have no problem. We have all the basic gear you’ll need, including backpacks, backpacking tents, compact sleeping bags and sleeping pads.
We will leave Montgomery around 8:30 a.m. Friday morning and return by late afternoon on Saturday.
There is no cost for the hike; however we ask that you contribute $20 to a pool for gas money and group dinner expenses. We’ll have a pre-trip meeting the Sunday before the hike to go over all the details and get your loaner gear to you.
Space is limited and registration is required.

Adult day hiking at Smith Mountain
Saturday, Nov. 18
Reboot day-hike trips give a taste of what we are all about. These are half-day trips to scenic trails within about a two-hour radius of Montgomery. Along with hiking and enjoying nature, we stop at several points to share relevant scriptures and a short devotional. They are perfect for individuals or couples looking to get out of the city for a few hours on a Saturday morning.
This trip will explore the trails around Smith Mountain, the highest point at Lake Martin and home to a recently restored fire tower with great views. The trailhead is about an hour from Montgomery and we will hike about 3 miles. Though this trail is perfect for nearly all experience levels, there are some hilly sections with elevation gains so be prepared for a decent workout.
We will leave at 8 a.m. Saturday morning and return in the late afternoon. After the hike, we’ll make a lunch stop near Lake Martin.
There is no cost for the hike; however we will have to carpool and we ask that those not driving contribute $5 to help cover gas money for those who do drive. Also, bring $$ for lunch.
